Competition for a viewpoint at Serreta, which we didn’t win, co-authored with Sérgio Silva and Joana Fonseca (Office_Ina).
“In the end, the certainty of the sea”
To the west of Terceira Island, the Ponta da Serreta lighthouse coexists in a clearing dotted with tables, trees, and walls that separate it from the tangled vegetation. It is from here that access to the viewpoint is proposed: first, a path of charred wooden planks, resting lightly on the ground and zigzagging through the forest trees; then, a concrete structure in basalt-black tones, supported at key points on the terrain, stretching toward the cliff and visually blending with it. From this vantage point, the vast landscape unfolds, contrasting with the subtle presence of the structure when viewed from other locations.
Between the trees, two walls will mark the beginning of the viewpoint. Next comes a ramp that will rise, allowing passage beneath it to other trails. At the top, flanked by the treetops, the landscape will emerge, along with a staircase whose steps will serve as a stage for contemplation. On the descent, the proposal is to be near the cliff, suspended above the sea.
